On Friday, November 19, 2021, Crossmon Consulting was part of the project to add the wreck site of the topsail schooner ABIAH to the State Register of Historic Places. This was the first step toward a National Register listing. The wreck was located by Steve Radovan in September 2018 and surveyed in 2019 and 2020 with the assistance of Crossmon Consulting, LLC and Marine Imaging Technologies. ABIAH is located northeast of Sheboygan in about 240 feet of water. It operated from 1847 to 1855 mostly in the grain and lumber trades but was most well-known for bringing the first railroad locomotive to Wisconsin. This project included a big thanks to Chris Spoo, Caitlin Zant, Tom Crossmon, Evan Kovacs and Doug Hamilton for their assistance in various ways with this project!
With the use of our Remotely Operated Vehicles (ROVs), we were able to find the Canadian Pacific DC10 Model Locomotive CP694, resting at 250 feet at the bottom of Lake Superior, in Ontario, Canada. With initial coordinate information we were able to find the train in July, 2016. The difficulty with this find was searching through the boulders surrounding the train.
Within this project Crossmon Consulting performed a search and light salvage of a boat that had sunk in Lake Michigan. In July, 2014 we located the watercraft, then later salvaged it in August, 2014.
As part of our underwater search explorations utilizing our Side Scan Sonar, we captured images of shipwrecks including the A.C. Adams, Rouse Simmons, and Thomas Wilson. We were able to record these vessels in their resting state at the bottom of Lake Superior and Lake Michigan.
These shipwreck finds were projects working with two historical society teams, Crossmon Consulting found and provided images of ship wrecks, facilitated by the use of our Side Scan Sonar, Remotely Operated Vehicle (ROV). These depictions are from two incredible projects.
Henry B. Smith: This exploration was of the shipwreck of the Henry B. Smith, a cargo ship that sank into Lake Superior during the great storm of 1913. Working alongside a team representing the Great Lakes Ship Wreck Museum, we were the first to see inside the pilot house facilitated by the use of our VideoRay, Remotely Operated Vehicle (ROV).
